Pediatric Dentistry

The American Dental Association recommends that every child should visit the dentist when they get their first tooth. It is important that your child's newly-erupted teeth are properly cared for from the beginning.

We provide a "Happy Visit" for our young patients to allow them to become comfortable in our office.  We will help them learn and understand the value of long-term oral health and get them started on the right path to a healthy and long-lasting smile. We will also help provide parents with the tools and techniques to help their children along the way.

Preventative Treatment

We recommend that your child visit the dentist at least every six months for a dental exam and prophylaxis.  Primary teeth need to be well taken care of even though they will be replaced with permanent teeth in time. They hold the place for those permanent teeth. If there is trauma or an infection associated with a primary tooth, this will need to be evaluated/treated to protect that developing permanent tooth.

We will also recommend the placement of sealants for the permanent molars as soon possible. This is a thin layer of resin that flows into the deep grooves and pit to protect from the acid produced by the bacteria.  It is placed in hopes to prevent the need for future fillings on these biting surfaces.

Restorative Care

We sometimes will recommend that if some of our youngest patients require extensive dental work, that we work with a nurse anesthetist. This will allow the child to be unaware of the procedures and keep a more positive outlook for future dental treatment.
